The rule that applies to every Younique mascara: you place the brush at the base of your lashes and sweep up toward the tips, then add coats for the effect you want. After that, each mascara has its own little trick: wiggle and roll for the Epic 4D fiber mascara, apply then layer for the Quadra, separate then define for the Epic Twisted. Let’s take them one by one, step by step.
Here I give you my opinion based on the official product texts, the formula and public reviews (which I quote with their link). As a Curated creator, I earn a commission when you order through my links, at no extra cost to you.
Before you start: 3 common-sense tips (not official instructions)
- Clean, dry lashes. The mascara stays put better and you avoid smudges.
- Curl before, not after. If you use the Younique eyelash curler, do it before the mascara, never on top of it.
- Don’t pump the brush in the tube. This is very common makeup artist advice (air gets into the tube and the formula dries out faster), not an official Younique instruction: simply twist the brush to reload it.
Epic 4D fiber mascara: wiggle, roll, repeat

The MOODSTRUCK EPIC 4D is a fiber mascara with Y-shaped fibers and a double-sided brush designed to interlock them. The official text promises volume, length and curl in a single step. Here are the official instructions, in my own words:
- Wiggle. After your eyeshadow, place the brush at the base of your lashes and wiggle it back and forth.
- Roll. Roll the brush upward, from the base to the tips, to spread the fibers evenly.
- Repeat. Add coats until you get the volume and length you want.
What public reviews say about the Epic 4D
On ChickAdvisor, the mascara scores 4.5/5 from 12 member reviews. Several members praise the length and volume; one says she no longer wears false lashes, another notes there are no smudges under the eyes. But the downsides come up again and again: the price is seen as high, it takes a few tries to master the technique, and one user finds that extra coats quickly turn into “spider leg” clumps. Another regrets that it isn’t waterproof. The official product page doesn’t give a removal method: use your usual eye makeup remover, gently.
Quadra 4-in-1 mascara: apply, layer, remove

The YOUNIQUE QUADRA combines serum, primer, tubing and mascara. According to the official product page, the formula is vegan, ophthalmologist-approved and free from prostaglandins, parabens, sulfates and phthalates, with smudge-free, transfer-free wear claimed for up to 12 hours. The brand also cites 12-week clinical results (up to 62.5% more volume, 59.2% more length and 49.9% more curl): those are its own figures, not an independent review.
- Apply. Start at the base of the lashes and sweep the brush upward, from root to tip.
- Layer. Add several coats for more volume, length and curl.
- Remove. Take it off gently with warm water or a remover designed for tubing mascaras.
I couldn’t find independent reviews detailed enough on the Quadra to quote: my opinion here is therefore based on the formula and the official claims. On paper, it’s the most “skincare-minded” of the four.
Chocolate Bombshell: the everyday brown tubing mascara

The YOUNIQUE Chocolate Bombshell is a tubing mascara with a creamy texture in a deep brown, pitched as the alternative to black for a natural look, with sodium hyaluronate and amino acids. Official instructions:
- Apply. Brush at the base of the lashes, then sweep upward to the tips.
- Wiggle lightly at the base to help separate the lashes, then stretch out to the tips for length.
- Add coats for the intensity you want.
- Remove with warm water, gently pressing with your fingertips or a soft cloth. Don’t pull or rub your lashes.
Epic Twisted mascara: two brushes, three steps

The MOODSTRUCK EPIC Twisted has a micro-brush and a molded brush. You can use them together for an intense look or separately for a more natural finish (micro-brush only). The official text mentions keratin, biotin, panthenol and argan oil.
- Separate. With the micro-brush, coat and separate the lower lashes and the ones in the corners of your eyes.
- Define. With the molded brush, start at the base of the lashes and sweep up for volume, curl and definition.
- Boost. For a bolder effect, add a second coat with the molded brush.
Which one to choose? My opinion, on paper
- You want to simplify your routine with a skincare feel: the Quadra.
- You want a spectacular effect in just a few steps: the Epic 4D.
- You want precision on small lashes: the Epic Twisted.
- You prefer brown to black: the Chocolate Bombshell.

Hygiene: the official rules you shouldn’t forget

For all mascaras, the American Academy of Ophthalmology advises removing eye makeup every evening, never sharing your eye makeup, throwing products away after three months and not using a sharp object to separate stuck-together lashes. If a product irritates, the FDA says to stop using it immediately.

Frequently asked questions about Younique mascara
How many coats of Epic 4D mascara should I apply?
According to the official text, a single coat is enough to enhance the look of your lashes. If you want more volume and length, you can add more until you get the effect you want, but public reviews point out that extra coats can cause clumping: it’s best to go gently.
How do I remove Quadra or Chocolate Bombshell mascara?
These are tubing mascaras. For the Quadra, the official page says to remove gently with warm water or a remover designed for tubing mascaras. For the Chocolate Bombshell: warm water on the lashes, gentle pressure with your fingertips or a soft cloth, without pulling or rubbing.
How do I use the double brush of the Epic Twisted mascara?
The micro-brush separates and coats the lower lashes and those in the corners of the eyes, and it can be used on its own for a natural effect. The molded brush goes on at the base of the lashes and sweeps up to the tips for volume and curl. For a bolder effect, apply a second coat with the molded brush.
How long can I keep a mascara?
The American Academy of Ophthalmology recommends throwing away eye makeup after three months, because bacteria grow easily in creamy or liquid textures, and never sharing it.
What should I do if mascara irritates my eyes?
The FDA says to stop using an eye product that irritates immediately, and to see a doctor if the irritation persists. If in doubt, talk to a healthcare professional.
Which Younique mascara should I choose for short lashes?
On paper, two options: the Epic 4D, whose Y-shaped fibers are designed to give volume, length and curl in one step, and the Quadra 4-in-1, which combines serum, primer and tubing mascara. My guide to choosing according to your lashes is the article “Which Younique mascara is right for your lashes?”.
